Welcome to the memorial page for

Marjorie J. Yorton

July 9, 2013

Marjorie Yorton, 92, of Whitney Point, died at home Tuesday July 9, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Marjorie was born to Ralph and Jessie (Gates) Bliss, at Pendell Hill, Nanticoke. She graduated from Whitney Point High School and married Bruce Clark Bell in 1939. During WWII, she lived in Greene and inspected aircraft parts at Scintilla in Sydney. After the war she became a telephone operator, then a supervisor. They moved to Hardy Road in the town of Maine where she became a stay at home mom. Later, she attended Ridley Lowell business school, but found her calling as a teacher’s aide, first at BOCES program for the deaf, then in Mrs. LaForce’s class at Lincoln School. Bruce died in 1978 and she married Carl Yorton of Tavares, Florida in 1983. Carl was a wonderful companion until his death in 1992.

In earlier years, she enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks with family and friends. After she turned sixty, she widened her horizons, traveling the country and the world. She was over 60 when she learned to play the organ. Her favorite phrase, “that’s just the way it is,” describes her pragmatic approach. She was a woman of action and an independent thinker who did things in her own way.

Marjorie is survived by three children: Larry (Annette) Bell of Moravia, Marcia (Joe) Roma of Whitney Point and Lettie Yacos of Masonville; six grandchildren: Sarah (Gary) Kubitz, Ben, Rebecca (Patrick Rogan) and Daniel Roma, Tiernan and Garrett Yacos; three great-grandchildren: Amanda, Hannah and Adam Kubitz; friends: Dean and Shirley LaForce among many others; and one huge feline: Kitty Cat.

Our hearts are broken with the loss of one who has always loved us. Nevertheless, we know our Redeemer lives.

Calling hours will be held 6-8:00 PM Friday at Nichols funeral home in Whitney Point. An additional calling hour will be 10-11:00 AM Saturday followed by a Service of Death and Resurrection at 11:00 at the Whitney Point Methodist Church.
