Janet Mortenson

Janet H. Mortenson, 66, passed away on June 19, 2022 at her farm in Nanticoke. She was predeceased by her parents, Larry and Helene Mortenson; brothers, Kenny, Dennis and sister, Taylor (Patricia). Janet is survived by her brothers, Dan, Jack (Lee) and Ray (Pam); sister-in-law, Nancy Mortenson; many nieces and nephews and ex-husband, Dennis Petraske, with whom she remained best friends with. Janet graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1973 and Morrisville State College in 1976 with a business degree. Together for 20 years, Janet and Dennis built a stone house by hand along with friends and relatives. In 1986 they moved to San Diego, CA and started a landscaping business and worked on multiple fixer-upper houses. Janet moved back to NY and continued her fixer-upper business while also assisting her sibling and friends with theirs. Her hobbies were helping maintain Maple Grove Cemetery and planting trees and shrubs at her farm. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and architectural salvage. Janet was a remarkable, strong, and determined woman. She had a green thumb and a heart of gold and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, July 9 at Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119 Street, Whitney Point, NY 13862. Friends of the family may call from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at Nichols Funeral Home.
