Helen Driscoll

Helen Katharine (Kotula) Driscoll, age 91, died peacefully in her home after a long illness on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Kotula, who immigrated from Poland and settled in Richford, NY.  She was also predeceased by her brothers Charlie and Raymond Kotula.  
She is survived by her children Daniel Driscoll, MD; Marie (Ben) Reese; Thomas Driscoll and his partner Kathy Hulbert; and Michael (Kari) Driscoll; also by her three grandchildren Eric (Chiny) Driscoll of McLean, VA; Ben (Lori) Driscoll of Wynnewood, PA and Laura (Damian) Cioni of Colonia, NJ; as well as 6 great-grandchildren.   She was proud of her education at the one room schoolhouse on Victory Hill Road and graduated from Newark Valley Central School.  She met and married her husband Richard Driscoll, DDS (also deceased) with whom she built and managed the 36-hole golf course Ford Hill Country Club for over 60 years.  She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, reading and cooking.  She regularly attended mass at St. Patrick’s parish of Whitney Point and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years.
Her family would like to thank the many patrons who golfed at Ford Hill Country Club over the years and took time to express their enjoyment of the course to Helen.  We also appreciate the kindness of several women of the community who provided care for Helen in her home as her health declined and the Hospice Program of Lourdes Hospital who eased her passing.
Calling hours will be at Nichols Funeral Home, 119th Street, Whitney Point, NY on Monday March 24th from 1-3 pm and from 6-8 pm.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Kiebel Road, Whitney Point, NY on Tuesday March 25th at 11 am with lunch served at Noon in the church basement following mass.  Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Whitney Point, NY at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Helen’s name be made to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry or the Lourdes Hospice Program.
