Emma Jean Mattern, 85, of Endwell, loving mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew her was born in East Strousburg, PA., February 12, 1933, and went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2019 at Good Sheppard Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Mattern and parents, Morrill and Mabel Akens. Emma is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Donna and Robert Pirog, Carolyn Mattern, Eva and James Vander Molen; sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul and Shari Mattern, Robert and Marsha Mattern; eight grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Scott, Kristen, Brian, Bobby, Emma and Suzi; great-grand children, Owen and Rose; sister, Helen Black and many nieces and nephews. Emma Jean was an accomplished ballerina and ballet teacher. She was a devoted homemaker and in later years she worked for Family Life and Hope for Bereaved in Syracuse. She was a Commissioned Lay Minister with the Syracuse Diocese, active in Marriage Encounter for 28 years and member and lector at St. Patrick’s Church in Whitney Point. A funeral mass will be held 10:00am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 59 Keibel Road, Whitney Point, New York 13862. Friends of the family may call Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Nichols Funeral Home 7323 119th Street, Whitney Point New York 13862.
