Charles D. Elwood

Charles D. Elwood of Whitney Point passed away Friday at Willow Point Nursing Home.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Juanita Callen Elwood, his parents Ralph and Carrie Elwood and sister Edna Pixley.  He is survived by his three loving daughters Cheryl (Ralph) Canniff, Susan (Robert) Simpson and Patricia Molyneaux.  He was born May 16th, 1924, in the Town of Nanticoke.  Charlie was a long time farmer, always willing to help his neighbor's fix their equipment.  Later in life, he went to work at the Whitney Point Agway spreading lime on farmer’s fields.  He then retired, to open his own wood business which he loved doing and made many friends, while in business.  His hobbies included hunting and bowling on many leagues.  Most of all, he loved and cherished his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his two great, great grandbabies.  They were his love during his retired years.  Charlie was one of the founders of the Triangle Fire Company and helped form a softball team in Triangle, NY.  He also, belonged to the Willet Senior Center, where he made many friends, traveling all over with them playing on their pool team and boating with the guys. The family will receive friends at the Nichols Funeral Home 7323 119th St. Whitney Point Monday April 7, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday April 8, 2014 from 10a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Donations can be made to the Triangle Fire Department.
