Barbara J. Proper, 85, Whitney Point went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Bertha Hoyt; 2 brothers, Billy and Henry Hoyt; 4 sisters, Lida, Fran, Charlotte, Edith, and grandson, Colin. She was survived by her son, Paul Barr; daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Joe Shaffer; son, Richard Obenauer; son, Edwin, Obenauer; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Ken Higley; grandchildren, Butchie, Brandie, Jamie, Amanda, Vince, Tasha, John, Johnny, Joshua, Ashley, and Billy Lidell; many, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Chuck, James and Richard Hoyt; sister, Kathy Dickman; also many nieces and nephews. Barb always had the biggest smile on her face. No matter the occasion she was always the first there and the last to leave. She loved going camping and family picnics. She was famous for her baked beans and her banana nut bread. She was a great bowler, her favorite singer was Elvis, and she loved to play Bingo. She genuinely loved her children, who she adored. She always put her family first and will be dearly missed by everyone. The family would like to send their thanks to the fabulous faculty at Willow Point Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 5:00pm Tuesday, March 24 at Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119 St, Whitney Point, NY 13862. Friends of the family may call from 2:00pm to 5:00pm Tuesday, March 24 at Nichols Funeral Home.
