Joseph E. Panek Sr.

Joseph Ernest Panek Sr., 88, died peacefully in his home on December 16, 2016 with his wife Ruth (Cookie) by his side. Joe was born in Buffington, PA on May 3, 1928. He lived in Footedale, PA most of his adult life and moved to Whitney Point, NY with his wife in 2011. Joe graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1949. Joe was a long time employee of US Steel's Frick District Filbert Shop.
Joe was the son of the late Elizabeth (Novak) and Felix Panek. He was predeceased by his first wife, Genevieve; his brothers, John, Ernest, Bobby and Lou; his sisters,  Irene, Helen and Marge. Joe is survived by his wife, Ruth (Janke) Panek; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Carol Panek Jr of Masontown PA; sister, Betty Gmutza, MI; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step daughter, Sue and her husband Mike Maher along with two step grandchildren of Bloomingburg, NY. Joe is also survived by many neices and nephews. Joe enjoyed a long standing friendship with dear friends David and Arlene Molnar. Private services will be scheduled in the spring 2017. Memorial donations may be sent to the Footedale Volunteer Fire Department, 501 Footedale Rd New Salem, Pennsylvania 15468.
