Arthur “Spike” Shear, 78, of Castle Creek passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Helen Shear; brothers, Earl and Roy; sister, Theda Dibler; nephew, Douglas Shear and great-nephew, Michael Shear. He is survived by sister, Betty Czebiniak, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sharon Shear; sister-in-law, Dorotha Grosso; nephews, David Shear, Louis Shear,  nieces, Helen Czebiniak, Patricia Bush, Bonnie Beeman, Karen Krukowski, Susan O'Dell, Laura Ellis-Guerensey, Elizabeth Shear; 17 great nieces and nephews; 24 great great nieces and nephews. Spike was a longtime resident of Castle Creek until 2007. He worked for the Town of Chenango for 37 years. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at St. Louise Manor for their loving care and support of Spike for nine years. They would also like to thank the staff of Elizabeth Church Manor for their care of Spike for the last 10 months. Thank you, Spike. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glen Castle Cemetery at a later date. Friends of the family may call Saturday 10:00 to 11 a.m. at Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119th Street Whitney Point, New York 13862.
